  • User-friendly interface: Opt for software with an intuitive and easy-to-navigate interface. This will minimize the learning curve for your team members, ensuring quick adoption and smoother workflows.
  • Collaboration and communication features: The best project management software offers robust collaboration and communication features, such as real-time messaging, file sharing, and discussion boards. These features foster effective communication among remote team members, for example during remote presentations.

"A must-have project management tool"

What do you like best about Trello?

I've been using Trello as a management tool for a few years now and I've noticed many positive things. First of all, its clean and user-friendly design makes it very intuitive for new users. In addition, Trello offers many useful features and tools for project management, such as the ability to create custom cards and lists, tags to categorize tasks, comments, and assigning tasks to team members.

Another positive aspect of Trello is that it integrates very well with other project management tools and third-party applications, allowing it to be integrated into existing workflows. It also enables real-time collaboration with team members, which facilitates communication and task tracking.

What do you dislike about Trello?

The free version has some limitations in terms of the number of integrations and tools available, so you may need a paid version to take full advantage of all the features. The structure of maps and lists may also be somewhat limited if more complex organisation is required.

What problems is Trello solving and how is that benefiting you?

I find Trello a very effective project management tool, especially for small and medium-sized teams. It is easy to use, intuitive and offers many useful features. Thanks to its customization and collaboration capabilities, it can solve project management problems and increase team productivity.

"User Friendly Project Management Tool!"

What do you like best about Asana?

Asana makes it easy as a freelancer to work with clients and streamline project management with an intuitive and easy-to-use platform.

It allowed me to cut down on searching through long email strings with clients, and manage everything directly within Asana, increasing productivity and communication.

The best feature is that it allows creation of sub-tasks to break down larger projects, as well as providing a lot of flexibility with more views than other similar tools, such as board, list, calendar, workflow, and timeline views.

What do you dislike about Asana?

It can often feel a bit overwhelming at times, and like it doesn't simplify project management, but actually makes it more complicated than it needs to be. I'd also like more flexible pricing options for freelancers and small businesses, as the premium plan can be a bit steep when compared to other software. There are few good Asana alternatives that you can find more helpful depending on your projects.

What problems is Asana solving and how is that benefiting you?

Streamlines project management with clients while eliminating the need to send emails back and forwards. It also breaks down large-scale projects into smaller tasks and makes it easy to keep track of the status of each task. It has significantly improved communication with clients, and also helped to become more productive.

"My number one productivity tool!"

What do you like best about ClickUp?

I love everything about it - how you can organize everything in spaces, folders, and lists. You can also create templates so you don't have to reinvent the wheel each time a project starts. I love the ClickApps primarily the timetracking tool which helps me give an overview of where I spend my time the most. The good thing about ClickUp is that as long as you add all the necessary details when creating tasks (such as priority levels, time estimates, due dates, etc.), using ClickUp will be a breeze.

What do you dislike about ClickUp?

ClickUp is slow. I'm hesitating on going "all in" to ClickUp because it's not a reliable application in regards to its speed. We still use Google Docs/Calendar/Sheets to collaborate as a team but I would love it if ClickUp will be optimized in the future so that we can start using ClickUp more.

What problems is ClickUp solving and how is that benefiting you?

ClickUp helps me stay on track. Tasks are sorted by Due date and priority level in the home page, you can see your own future workload in the WORKLOAD view so I can plan ahead. I can use the Time Tracking tool to keep track of how I spend time and decide on what I want to focus on for the succeeding days/weeks. ClickUp helps me get things done.

"Easy-to-use and customizable tool with integrated features, but the price is high"

What do you like best about Airtable?

I found its interface easy to use as I can customize things on the dashboard. Even without experience with databases and spreadsheets, I can understand the data flow.

Also with its customizable workflows and templates, I can manage projects more efficiently. In addition to making it easier to collaborate with team members who use different platforms, integration capabilities make it easier.

What do you dislike about Airtable?

Despite having the ability to combine spreadsheet and database functionality, it is not as powerful as dedicated spreadsheet software for me.

And, If I only need basic features, paid plans are quite expensive for a small team.

What problems is Airtable solving and how is that benefiting you?

Custom databases in this tool have been very helpful in saving me time and reducing the risk of errors associated with transferring data between different applications.

Also, I loved that way they provide integration capabilities with other software applications, such as Zapier and Google Drive. This made collaborations more seamless with others.

"Smartsheet has made continual improvement an organic process"

What do you like best about Smartsheet?

The best attribute of Smartsheet is it's ablity to maintain a large repository of information, accessible by project managers whenever they need it. In addition, the customised automation means that I can keep tweaking the sheet so that improvements keep flowing.

What do you dislike about Smartsheet?

Date format of attachments does not mimic the regional settings. i.e. If I set my date format to DD-MM-YY, the attachments are still listed as MM-DD-YY. I'd prefer consistent format for all dates.

What problems is Smartsheet solving and how is that benefiting you?

The first of several Smartsheets that I have created centralises and automates our National QA reporting process, reducing inefficient "to and fro" emails and instead collects all necessary project and product information via a smartsheet form. Once our QA team has all the critical information, we can then ensure Project Managers are automatically notified with the right QA reports for their customers, on time, the first time, everytime.

Another Smartsheet has also been made to capture all Laboratory purchase orders and sample disptaches, ensuring we keep good tracking information, such as orders, consignet details, invoices, email communications etc of all the different tasks we have on the go.

"Great for complex processes & detail oriented teams"

What do you like best about Wrike?

Wrike has been helpful to me & my team for keeping track of our entire workload. The ability to set up custom dashboards so that employees know what to work on that day, with tasks grouped into widgets customized for our processes and workflows keeps us running efficiently. All the details that are needed to execute on deliverables and action items are housed within task and project descriptions to keep everyone on the same page. Native time tracking allows us to pull billing reports and keep track of everyone's timesheet. Blueprints save the project management team time while keeping our processes consistent across departments and deliverables. The request forms have been beneficial as a way to facilitate organized communication between external clients and our internal production team.

What do you dislike about Wrike?

While Wrike has dependencies/predecessors built into the system, it doesn't "hide" tasks being "blocked" by a predecessor in task do-to lists such as on dashboards. Because of this, employees might start working on a task that isn't ready for them yet without them realizing it, which can waste time and resources and cause confusion. Our workaround was to use Wrike's automations to automatically change the status of a dependent task from 'Not Ready' to 'New' when the predecessor task has been set to 'Complete' or 'Cancelled'. This way, our team knows at a glance that a task on the 'Not Ready' status indicates there are things that need completed before that task can be worked on, rather than having to open the task & dig into the list of dependencies.

What problems is Wrike solving and how is that benefiting you?

Wrike allows us to organize work for our team members in a way that facilitates collaboration and accountability. Information needed to complete deliverables is easily accessible to everyone on the team, and expectations are clearly outlined in order to complete work.

"Highly efficient project management for complex engineering projects"

What do you like best about Freedcamp?

Freedcamp enables our team to effectively and efficiently manage complex, multifaceted engineering projects, including sounding rockets. Being able to assign specific individuals and groups, deadlines, and priorities to individual tasks provides a high degree of authority and accountability over each task that contributes to their timely completion.

What do you dislike about Freedcamp?

In my experience, the only feature of Freedcamp that can be difficult to understand is the calendar board. This is the case when there are a significant amount of tasks active at the same time.

What problems is Freedcamp solving and how is that benefiting you?

Freedcamp is solving the problem of tasks not being done due to a lack of ownership and accountability. Since tasks can be assigned to specific people, with set due dates, tasks are much more likely to be performed at a higher quality, and more likely to adhere to deadlines.

"Project Management tools made easy for non-project managers"

What do you like best about monday.com?

Monday.com is extremely accessible and user-friendly for users with all ranges of experience in business and project management software.

It's easy to learn, simple to understand, and excellent to get organization up and running with small or large projects, making communication with multiple departments easy and painless.

Everything "works" without hassle; even the simple functionality of the clipboard feature integrating flawlessly is something to appreciate.

What do you dislike about monday.com?

It was a little challenging to figure out why my account permissions would allow me to see some boards and not others and request invitations to those company boards I was missing.

When I was a new user, it would have been helpful if I could search for existing boards, see I was not a part of that group, and request an invitation from the board owner.

What problems is monday.com solving and how is that benefiting you?

Organizing website and feature performance across multiple teams within our organization. My department uses it to plan projects, track data and assign individual tasks.

Information is easily accessible, and with our Monday boards we can see the points of contact for every project. All data is clearly outlined and simple to access and update.

"An essential tool for project management"

What do you like best about Basecamp?

Since I started using Basecamp for my work, project management is much more efficient. The whole team is informed in real time of assigned tasks, deadlines and related updates. Basecamp also offers several tools for organizing and sharing files, which makes teamwork much easier.

What do you dislike about Basecamp?

One of the things I didn't like about Basecamp is that there is no option to add subtasks to the main task. This can be a bit confusing when organizing more complex tasks. I also found that the platform can sometimes be a bit slow when loading large amounts of files, but overall it wasn't a big problem.

Basecamp has been a very useful problem-solving tool for my team. For example, thanks to Basecamp's communication and task tracking tools, we were able to quickly identify design errors in pre-release products and correct them before it was too late. In addition, thanks to the feedback feature, I was able to quickly resolve any questions or issues that arose during the project development process.
